In a fiery post on X (formerly Twitter) that followed President Joe Biden announcing he would not be continuing in his campaign and instead stepping down and appointing Vice President Kamala Harris as his preferred successor, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis slammed Vice President Kamala Harris, saying that she was “complicit” in covering up that Biden is not fit for the job.
As background, President Biden posted on X that he is dropping out and supporting Kamala, saying, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
President Biden also released a statement in which he explained his decision to drop out while highlighting his track record. He said, in part, “Over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a Nation. Today, America has the strongest economy in the world. We’ve made historic investments in rebuilding our Nation, in lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and in expanding affordable health care to a record number of Americans. We’ve provided critically needed care to a million veterans exposed to toxic substances. Passed the first gun safety law in 30 years.”
The president continued, “Appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. And passed the most significant climate legislation in the history of the world. America has never been better positioned to lead than we are today. I know none of this could have been done without you, the American people. Together, we overcame a once in a century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We’ve protected and preserved our Democracy. And we’ve revitalized and strengthened our alliances around the world.”
In any case, Gov. DeSantis absolutely shredded VP Harris in his tweet about her candidacy, saying, “Kamala Harris was complicit in a massive coverup to hide and deny the fact that Joe Biden was not capable of discharging the duties of the office. She also was the the border [chief] during the worst border crisis in American history. Democrats are just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.”
A commenter on Governor DeSantis’s post joked that in not defending the border and doing little, if anything, as border chief, wrote, “She was a very successful democrat border [chief], she did exactly what her party demanded of her in terms of controlling the border, nothing.” Another commenter on his post argued, “The very first question she should be asked is, ‘How long have you known Joe Biden cannot execute his duties as POTUS?’”
Further, he spoke more about the coverup he sees as having happened in yet another post, saying, “Bingo. The Dems/media engaged in a years-long coverup of the fact that the POTUS was not fit for duty. Now they are scrambling — not because they are concerned about Biden being unable to do the job, but because they think he will lose and bring them down with him.”
